What do you campground people do all winter??

We get asked this question a lot. No we don’t laze around eating bonbons all day! While the pace is certainly less intense, there is still plenty to do. Our focus shifts to getting in some quality family time. For us that’s fishing, hiking, golfing, crafting, playing games, traveling to warm places, and lots of time hanging out around the indoor fire.

As far as campground work goes, we dig into improvements such as building cabins or repairing equipment. We spend lots of time trimming trees, removing dead trees, and hauling logs and dump truck loads of pine straw away. We’re also planning activities such as our Treats in the Trees Tour & Fundraiser June 17. It’s a new event this year where you can walk through the campground trying different chocolate treats for a great cause – yummy! (More details to come.) There’s lots of paperwork and licensing, but I won’t bore you with that. We’re also hiring and training new staff and ordering fun stuff for the camp store. My personal favorite off season activities are planning and practicing new craft activities and dreaming about ideas for changes in future years, coffee bar? Fishing pond??

Finally, we are checking in with seasonal campers, helping with reservations, and answering camper questions. It’s so rewarding to hear from campers who came for the first time last season, who are now planning to return this next season with additional family and friends. We also get to share in the excitement of someone who just bought a new RV and are scheduling their very first trip! And we hear about upcoming family reunions and from folks who haven’t camped in years giving it a go again.

In the “off” season we recharge our batteries, think of our campground community often, and work to make the campground an even better place for you. Hope your “off” season is going well and we look forward to seeing you soon. ~ Kara Traxler
